Additive Manufacturing European Conference

Industrializing “additive manufacturing” for a competitive and sustainable economy

CECIMO, the European Association of the Machine Tool industries, is organizing at the first “Additive Manufacturing European Conference” at the European Parliament in Brussels (Belgium), where representatives from additive manufacturing (AM) companies, EU institutions, think tanks and the machine tools sector will discuss the opportunities, perspectives and challenges related to the additive manufacturing technology. The event is hosted by MEP Reinhard Bütikofer of the Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance.
Participation is free and registration is available at www.cecimo.eu/site/am-european-conference/

The participants to the conference will hear a keynote speech by Dr.-Ing. Bernhard Langefeld, Principal at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, on the opportunities and challenges brought by AM for the European industry.
Then Mr. Ezio Basso, Managing Director, Prima Industrie, Italy, Mr. Benjiamin Denayer – Senior Business Developer Additive Manufacturing, Sirris – Research Institute, Belgium and Mr. Pat Picariello – Director, Developmental Operations ASTM International – Standardisation organization – ASTM (US) have already confirmed their participation to the speakers’ session: The state of the art in additive manufacturing, areas of application and opportunities for industrial competitiveness and sustainability.
A panel will allow stakeholders to exchange views on the theme Business and regulatory framework conditions in Europe: identifying the drivers for market uptake. Ms. Clara de la Torre – Director for KETs, RTD/D, European Commission and Prof. Thierry Rayna, ESG Management School, France have already confirmed their participation.
CECIMO is the point of reference in the area of metallic based additive manufacturing for EU policy-makers. It aims at ensuring that policy and regulations create the right framework conditions for the development of metallic based additive manufacturing in the EU.
Additive manufacturing, or 3D printing, is identified as one of the major disrupting technologies of the 21st century. As application areas rapidly expand from prototyping towards direct parts production, its transformative impact is being revealed in all areas of manufacturing: product design, production, supply chain organization, services and skills. The world’s economic powers are competing for leadership in such ground-breaking technologies that will define the future of industry and help improve living standards for the society. Nevertheless, there are still various technical barriers to overcome before additive manufacturing (AM) technologies can be fully operationalized in industrial production.

CECIMO is the European Association of the Machine Tool Industries. We bring together 15 national Associations of machine tool builders, which represent approximately 1500 industrial enterprises in Europe*, over 80% of which are SMEs. CECIMO covers 98% of the total machine tool production in Europe and about one third worldwide. It accounts for almost 150,000 employees and a turnover of nearly €23 billion in 2014. About 80% of CECIMO production is shipped abroad, whereas two thirds of it is exported outside Europe*. For more information visit www.cecimo.eu
